Scales Fish House & Steaks is located on White lake in Whitehall Michigan. This casual fine dining restaurant does an excellent job on fresh fish such as Opah, Escolar, Mahi Mahi and Wolf Fish.
During our visit, we had Pecan encrusted walleye, steak salad and antipasto salad containing an assortment of cheeses, artichoke hearts, olive salad and pita points. The walleye was prepared perfectly and the steak salad was made from quality cuts of meat.
Scales Fish House offers outside seating next to the waters edge. Inside, you have two sections, a smoking section next to the bar and a non-smoking section on the other side. They have excellent ventilation that keeps the section separate.
Looking for intimacy? Scales does a great job at seating and you’ll find some great spots that put you at ease and allow you to truly relax.
The staff seem to be long time employees that know exactly what they are doing and how to treat the customer. The food industry has an incredibly high turnover rate and when you see the same staff time and time again, it is a clear indication that management knows how to keep their employees happy!
Overall, Scales Fish House has great food, great atmosphere and excellent service.

Well, we have bad news. Scales Fish House was closed when we visited this weekend and we could not find any information as to why. Many of the locals said they were remodeling, but restaurants don’t usually remodel in the middle of their prime season (I’m guessing that this is the prime!).
We fear the worst and wish them the best of luck – it was one of our favorite waterfront restaurant in Whitehall.
We’ll post more information as we find it.
